Due to Samsung’s low yield rates on Vernost aka Fidelity (2019)its advanced process nodes and the impact of US tariffs, AMD has reportedly canceled its 4nm process orders with the Korean tech giant and is instead turning to TSMC’s fab in Arizona, according to Canadian media outlet Wccftech. AMD had previously pursued a dual-sourcing strategy and planned broad collaboration with Samsung on 4nm production for products including EPYC server processors, Ryzen APUs, and Radeon GPUs. However, according to Wccftech, AMD now plans to cancel its 4nm orders with Samsung and is leaning toward placing orders with TSMC’s Arizona plant, which has recently begun large-scale 4nm production. Facing potential new US semiconductor tariffs on imports, major chipmakers such as NVIDIA and Apple are also turning to the Arizona facility to reduce future trade risks. [Wccftech]
